We thought you might like to put a face to a name and so below we give you a little information about each of our staff.
Douglas Dean, Technical Director
Born in Bolton, and now living in Westhoughton, Doug is married with a family.
He started his electronics career by working for a small company, which specialise in high quality “Top of the range Hi-Fi” equipment. Doug joined British Aerospace in his early 20’s working in the Standards Laboratory. It was during his time that he met Barry Sloan.
Doug went to work for Electrolok in 1987 joining Barry. He was the company’s first ever Technical Support Engineer specialising in the Cotag range of Access control products.
In 1990 Doug left Electrolok and founded Spectra Security with Barry Sloan and Ken Moore.
Douglas is a keen cyclist and has completed many long distance rides including London to Paris in 1999 and 2002, London – Amsterdam in 2005 and the amazing Lands End to John’O Groats in September 2007.
We helped by raising several hundred pounds for the Royal British Legion, N.D.C.S, N.C.C.S. (National Deaf Children’s Society and National Chrons and Colitis Society).
Barry Sloan, Commercial Director
Barry is also a Boltonian having lived there all his life. He joined British Aerospace at the age of 16 and on completing an apprentiship went to work in both the “Test” and “Test Engineering” Departments.
In 1984 he became Senior Engineer with Electrolok Ltd, an access control company located in Goostrey, Cheshire.
In 1987 he became Technical Director and in 1990 founded Spectra Security with Douglas Dean and Ken Moore.
Barry is a very bad runner, but completed the Great North Run in 2000 and also many other events such as The Manchester 10k, as well as the occasional cycle ride like to London to Paris in 2002, and London – Amsterdam in 2005 with Douglas.
Anthony Hockham, Sales Director
In January 2002 we were all pleased to welcome Anthony to the team, as our very first Sales Manager. Anthony joined us from spending many years with Bewator and more lately, Bewator-Cotag, where he was Area Sales Manager for the Northern Region. Crossing the line to one of his customers, he is responsible for all our sales within Spectra Security across all product lines.
Married with a family, Anthony lives in Warrington and is a keen Formula One fan.
Susan Smith, Sales Secretary
Susan joined us in 2004 as our Sales and Admin Secretary, prior to this she worked in a Senior Admin role for a company in the South of England.
She is a keen DIY enthusiast and amazes us with the tales of her DIY jobs.
Bernadette Gibbons, Sales and Service Administrator
“Bernie” joined the team in early 2007 as Sales and Service Administrator. She has the “Easy” job of making sure everyone is at the right place at the right time with all the right equipment doing the right job…. Multiply this by the number of projects we complete and those last minute changes and “It’s a breeze”!
She is the person who our customers speak mostly with.
Bernie is a Wigan Rugby fan and enjoys the occasional night out………
John Moore, Installation Engineer
John is our skilled carpenter and is really only at home working and shaping anything wooden. He has worked with the installation of access control equipment for over 20 years. John also lives in Westhoughton like most of the team. In Spectra Security John is primarily responsible for our installation of electric locks, electro-magnets, and all hardware equipment.
He is a keen cyclist and has regularly completed in the Manchester – Blackpool, Manchester Century (100 miles) and coast to coast (Scarborough – Morecambe) cycle rides.
John in October 2003 gained his Advanced Driving Test Qualification, which we were all very impressed with. John has recently renewed his love affair with large powerful motorcycles his current one being a Honda 650.
Kevin Greenslade, Service Engineer
Kevin joined us in February 1999. He is an experienced Radio and TV engineer who has spent the previous 8 years prior to joining Spectra Security in a service and maintenance role.
Kevin joined to be our “Service Engineer” and is primarily responsible for the planned maintenance of all our equipment with customers who have service contracts.
Kevin really enjoys the customer service side of the business; he's one of those people who can't rest until they know the root cause of the problem. He has already made significant reductions in customer fault call outs by further improving our already high quality “Planned Maintenance Service”. He has the gift of spotting potential problems before they cause customer concern.
In his spare time Kevin is a keen Formula One fan. (Mainly from his armchair and also enjoys his computer).
Richard Braithwaite, Installation Engineer
Richard joined the team in September 2002 directly from his school.
He joined under the Modern Apprenticeship scheme and has qualified in Electrical Installation gaining his 16th Edition and Inspection and Test Certificates as well. He is now a skilled Installation Engineer who also deals with any mains electrical items on site. He is a keen Manchester United fan and enjoys watching and playing football whenever he can.
Chris Orr, Installation Engineer
Chris joined us in early March 2005. He had an apprenticeship with the army in the Royal Engineers serving in some of the world’s trouble spots. Prior to joining us Chris worked for a National company installing audio, video and broadband technology into hospitals for use by “in patients”.
Chris in our traffic barrier and telecoms engineer as well as being a “cable” expert. He is a keen karting fan and takes part in the sport as and when he can. Chris has a young family and lives near Warrington.
Brian Smith, Technical Engineer
Brian joined us in late 2004 after being the field service engineer for one of our major suppliers. Brian has extensive product and software experience. He has solved some of the more challenging problems we have contended with whilst commissioning systems. Brian generally installs our software systems and provides handover training to our customers. His knowledge of systems and their operation is extensive and he has written innovative software for use by our larger clients.
Brian lives near Derby so has to travel across the country to visit our customers. He is a keen cook and enjoys long summer barbeques. (Don’t we all).
Our Apprentices – Tom and Gary
Both Tom and Gary joined us in August 2006 straight from school and are in the Modern Apprentice Scheme.
Tom is a keen Motorcyclist who enjoys watching as well as riding his bike.
Gary is into Basketball and plays regularly for a local team. He also has taken his initial coaching exams for Basketball.
So there you have our team - a small band of people who are committed to giving excellent customer service at the right price.
It’s what we at Spectra Security call “Security with Vision”.
