We thought you might like to put a face to a name and so below we give you a little information about each of our staff.
Douglas Dean, Technical Director
Born in Bolton, and now living in Westhoughton, Doug is married with a family.
He started his electronics career by working for a small company, which specialise in high quality “top of the range Hi-Fi” equipment. Doug joined British Aerospace in his early 20s working in the Standards Laboratory. It was during this time that he met Barry Sloan.
Doug went to work for Electrolok in 1987 joining Barry. He was the company’s first ever Technical Support Engineer specialising in the Cotag range of Access control products.
In 1990 Doug left Electrolok and founded Spectra Security with Barry Sloan and Ken Moore.
Douglas is a keen cyclist and has completed many long distance rides including London to Paris in 1999 and 2002, London to Amsterdam in 2005 and the amazing Land's End to John O'Groats in September 2007.
We helped by raising several hundred pounds for the Royal British Legion, N.D.C.S, N.C.C.S. (National Deaf Children’s Society and National Crohn's and Colitis Society).
Barry Sloan, Commercial Director
Barry is also a Boltonian having lived there all his life. He joined British Aerospace at the age of 16 and on completing an apprentiship went to work in both the “Test” and “Test Engineering” Departments.
In 1984 he became Senior Engineer with Electrolok Ltd, an access control company located in Goostrey, Cheshire.
In 1987 he became Technical Director and in 1990 founded Spectra Security with Douglas Dean and Ken Moore.
Barry is a very bad runner, but completed the Great North Run in 2000 and also many other events including the Manchester 10k, as well as the occasional cycle ride such as to London to Paris in 2002, and London to Amsterdam in 2005 with Douglas.
Anthony Hockham, Sales Director
In January 2011, Anthony became our Sales and Operations Director, assuming responsibility for
not only sales but now purchasing and customer service.
Anthony lives in Warrington and in his spare time he enjoys walking and is also a keen armchair Formula 1 fan.
Susan Smith, Sales Secretary
Susan joined us in 2004 as our Sales and Admin Secretary. Prior to this she worked in a senior admin role for a company in the South of England.
She is a keen DIY enthusiast and amazes us with the tales of her DIY jobs.
Bernadette Gibbons, Sales and Service Administrator
“Bernie” joined the team in early 2007 as Sales and Service Administrator. She has the “easy” task of making sure everyone is at the right place at the right time with all the right equipment doing the right job…. Multiply this by the number of projects we complete and those last minute changes and “It’s a breeze”!
She our main customer liaison person.
Bernie is a Wigan rugby fan and enjoys the occasional night out...
John Moore, Installation Engineer
John is our skilled carpenter specialising in working and shaping anything wooden. He has worked with the installation of access control equipment for over 20 years. John also lives in Westhoughton, like most of the team. In Spectra Security John is primarily responsible for our installation of electric locks, electro-magnets, and all hardware equipment.
He is a keen cyclist and has regularly completed the Manchester – Blackpool, Manchester Century (100 miles) and coast to coast (Scarborough – Morecambe) cycle rides.
John gained his Advanced Driving Test qualification in October 2003, impressing us all. John has recently renewed his love affair with large powerful motorcycles, his current one being a Honda 650.
Kevin Greenslade, Service Engineer
Kevin joined us in February 1999. He is an experienced radio and TV engineer who has spent the eight years prior to joining Spectra in a service and maintenance role.
Kevin joined to be our “Service Engineer” and is primarily responsible for the planned maintenance of all our equipment with customers who have service contracts.
Kevin really enjoys the customer service side of the business; he's one of those people who can't rest until they know the root cause of the problem. He has already made significant reductions in customer fault call outs by further improving our already high quality “Planned Maintenance Service”. He has the gift of spotting potential problems before they cause customer concern.
In his spare time Kevin is a keen Formula One fan (mainly from his armchair) and also enjoys his computer.
Darek Bester, Installation and Service Engineer
In February 2011 Darek joined our Installation and Service team after being employed as a sub-contractor for six months.
Darek has both installation and technical skills which make him equally at home either behind a drill or computer keyboard.
In his spare time he is kept busy by a young family, but when time allows he enjoys skiing and climbing the odd mountain or two!
Brian Smith, Technical Engineer
Brian joined us in late 2004 after being the field service engineer for one of our major suppliers. Brian has extensive product and software experience. He has solved some of the more challenging problems we have contended with whilst commissioning systems. Brian generally installs our software systems and provides handover training to our customers. His knowledge of systems and their operation is extensive and he has written innovative software for use by our larger clients.
Brian lives near Derby so has to travel across the country to visit our customers. He is a keen cook and enjoys long summer barbeques (don’t we all).
Tim Cooke, Apprentice
Tim joined Spectra in August 2009 as our apprentice; he was no stranger to us as he was one of our work experience students.
Tim is a very keen student who is following a BTEC course in Electrical Engineering at Wigan College. In his spare time he is a drummer, and enjoys motorcycle trials, golf, and if he has any time left, being a computer hobbyist.
So there you have our team - a small band of people who are committed to giving excellent customer service at the right price.
It’s what we at Spectra call “Security with Vision”.
